The GMC Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX concept truck takes the off-roading prowess of the midsize pickup and pushes it to extreme levels. The model, unveiled today as part of Overland Expo Mountain West 2021 festivities, was designed to show how the truck can appeal to overloading enthusiasts.

"We wanted to showcase GMC Canyon with this concept and punctuate GMC's commitment to premium, off-road capable vehicles. Consumer reaction to this concept's design will help us further serve the growing market of buyers leading authentic outdoor lifestyles," said Buick and GMC global vice president Duncan Aldred.

The GMC Canyon AT4 was introduced for the 2021 model year extending the truck line in the same vein as what the AT4 had done before for the Sierra 1500 and HD lineups. Each Canyon AT4 off the line gets 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires that wrap around 17-inch aluminum wheels, and off-road tuned suspension, hill descent control, four-wheel drive with an Eaton G80 rear automatic locking differential, and a transfer case skid plate.

For the Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX concept, the automaker added a factory-lifted, off-road chassis; off-road rocker panel protectors; cast-iron control arms; a heavy-duty front bumper with winch; integrated front recovery points; front and rear electronic locking rear differentials; wheel flares with integrated task lamps; Multimatic DSSV dampers; AEV rear off-road bumper; stainless steel truck bed cap; roof-mounted tent; 270-degree awning; Jerry cans; traction boards; off-road jack and mount; cooler and kitchenette; a truck bed storage system; a solar panel; a spare tire swivel mount; custom snorkel; and guy lines to help protect the windshield.

Traditional 31-inch tires have been swapped for 33-inch BFGoodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain rubber that are wrapped around 17-inch AEV Crestone wheels.

The changes result in a 27.7-degree approach angle and a 10-inch ground clearance. The vehicle's water fording capability has been increased to 32.1 inches.

The powertrain on the truck remains the same as the traditional Canyon AT4 - a 3.6-liter V6 that is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

When you're overlanding, capability is an important factor, but doing it with premium style and comfort elevates the experience even further for customers who truly want zero compromises," said John Owens, lead creative designer for the concept truck.
