Shenzhen-based automotive firm BYD announced on August 11 that its Pingshan headquarters campus has reduced the equivalent of 245,681.89 tons of carbon dioxide, successfully creating the first zero-carbon campus headquarters for a Chinese automotive brand.

Public information shows that the BYD Pingshan Auto Headquarters Industrial Park was built in September 2006, and is located in Pingshan District, Shenzhen City. It is the core of BYD’s operations and was built in two phases, covering a total area of about 2.3 million square meters and employing about 50,000 people. For this zero-carbon park renovation, BYD invited SGS Standard Technical Services, a global leader in inspection, accreditation, testing and certification services, to provide consulting certification and technical support for the project.

BYD said that it has built a three-dimensional intelligent green transportation system through new energy vehicles, cloud buses and cloud rail, and the utilization rate of new energy vehicles in the park reached 100%. All local production uses pure electric forklifts, stacker trucks, pallet trucks, heavy trucks and clean trucks developed and manufactured by BYD, achieving green logistics.

Public lighting in the park has been replaced by solar street lamps, and solar panels can be fully laid on the roof, with annual photovoltaic power generation exceeding 40 million kWh. Self-built optical and storage integrated energy storage systems can effectively guarantee production and electricity consumption.

BYD also integrates AI technology into energy-saving technological improvement, and adjusts equipment operation parameters through real-time monitoring, computing and processing to avoid ineffective operation of equipment power consumption. BYD has carried out more than 200 energy-saving technical improvement projects, and its carbon reduction efforts can reach 70,400 tons per year.

Production and sales data show that in July 2022, BYD sold 162,530 new energy vehicles, which, compared with 50,492 vehicles in the same period last year, represents a year-on-year increase of 183.1%. A total of 4,026 new energy passenger cars were sold by the firm overseas. This year, the total number of vehicles reached 803,900, an increase of 292.00% year-on-year.
