Update: Highway 403 reopened Tuesday morning.
Highway 403 is shut down in both directions in Brantford, Ont., after provincial police said a commercial vehicle hit the overpass at the Wayne Gretzky Parkway, causing part of the bridge to fall onto the road.
Const. Conrad Vitalis said no one was injured in the crash.
A video Vitalis posted to Twitter showed a large piece of concrete, crumbled in places, lying across the westbound lanes.
Near the edge of the road it had crushed a metal guardrail.
"As you can see from the concrete barrier on the ground and the damage to the bridge, this closure is going to be some time," he said.
Engineers are working to determine if the bridge is safe and the debris will need to be cleaned up, Vitalis added.
The City of Brantford said in a release Monday afternoon it was working with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), which is leading the investigation. MTO investigators and engineers are on site, the city said.
